The Start Us Up USA campaign, which we've written about a couple of times in recent days (here and here) is starting to get the attention of the national press. Note the discussion around heavy equipment and construction in this article from today's Wall St. Journal: But without a reauthorization bill to replace the existing law, transportation funding remains at current levels for an indefinite period. That has made states and companies reluctant to start new, long-term projects ... (Read the rest of this entry)

Construction and equipment industries in a depression? New site urges action

October 19th, 2009 by Jim Burnett

The state of the construction and equipment industries is worse than most people realize. According to a new project just launched by our partners, Associated Equipment Distributors: While the country is in recession, the state of the construction and equipment industries is more like a depression, reflecting the worst conditions our industries have seen since the end of World War II. Skilled, well-paid workers are idle while we tolerate a transportation infrastructure that is ever ... (Read the rest of this entry)

October 16th, 2009 by Sam Smith

We've noted the value of 1031 exchanges for the oil and gas industry, and have just completed a new case study based on an Accruit client. The results are staggering - since launching their like-kind exchange program, this energy giant has positioned itself to reap more than $250 million in cash flow benefit. September 10th, 2009 by Sam Smith

I just came across this headline at Real Estate News Dispatch: "Don’t Pay Taxes on Your Capital Gains: 1031 Exchanges" The article does acknowledge, three paragraphs in, 1031 exchanges are a deferral. (For the uninitiated, yes you will eventually need to pay your taxes.) But that doesn't excuse the splashy headline, which is clearly designed to attract attention without regard for whether or not it's misleading the reader. We certainly see this kind of tactic everywhere we look these days (mainstream ... (Read the rest of this entry)
